The volunteer Master Gardeners of Cornell Cooperative Extension, Monroe County are excited to be bringing you their twentieth annual fall symposium, entitled “Twenty Years and Growing.” This event, being held on Saturday, September 10th 2016, in the Eisenhart Auditorium, Rochester Museum & Science Center, 657 East Avenue, Rochester, NY, features nationally known speakers Don Engebretson and Jerry Kral.
Don Engebretson is a recognized author and speaker on landscape and garden design. Don speaks frequently across the U.S. and Canada at home and garden shows as well as consumer, university, and trade symposiums. Amongst his many credentials, he has six times won the Garden Writers Association Garden Globe Award. Don, aka The Renegade Gardener, will share the “Top Ten Gardening Blunders and How to Avoid Them” and present “Embrace Your Shade: Plants and Design Tips for Shady Spaces.”
Jerry Kral is President of Greater Rochester Perennial Society as well as Past Director and current Event Planner for The American Conifer Society. He also is a volunteer Master Gardener. Jerry will address a topic requested by past audiences, “So You Think You Know Your Conifers; Gardening with Conifers.” While giving presentations for North American Rock Garden Society Western Speakers Tour 2015, Jerry visited 7 cities from Anchorage to Denver. He spoke in Toronto and Ottawa this past spring on landscapes, fairy gardens, and rockeries. Jerry will have your conifer answers at this year’s symposium!
In addition to these speakers, the Master Gardeners will be hosting a parking lot sale that is open to the public throughout the symposium hours (8am–4pm). Specialty vendors feature their best. They will be bringing unusual plant and garden related items to this year’s gathering. Join us for both of these wonderful gardening opportunities. Be it for the day as we celebrate our twentieth symposium or simply to stop and shop with our vendors, we look forward to seeing you there.
