SYNOPSIS: The film is written and directed by Cord Jefferson (in his feature directorial debut) and stars Jeffrey Wright. A novelist who’s fed up with the establishment profiting from “Black” entertainment uses a pen name to write a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain. “American Fiction” has been Nominated for a 2024 Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) Golden Globe Award.
DISCUSSION: Following the film “American Fiction,” there will be a post-screening discussion. Panelists will be announced on RABJ’s Facebook page prior to the event. https://www.facebook.com/RABJ.417/

The Black Cinema Series, a partnership between the Rochester Association of Black Journalists (RABJ) and the Little Theatre, screens both scripted and non-fiction films about the Black experience.
With an emphasis on contemporary independent films the series highlights Black perspectives and filmmakers with screenings and panel discussions with community experts and filmmakers.
Rochester Association of Black Journalists (RABJ) – the 2019 NABJ Professional Chapter of the Year – is an affiliate of the National Association of Black Journalists, an organization of more than 4000 journalists students and media-related professionals that advocate for diversity in newsrooms and news content.
The Little Theatre is the premier cultural center for the presentation of American independent and foreign films visual arts and music for the greater Rochester community. Through educational events the Little Theatre provides local artists a place to share and discuss their visions with a diverse audience.
