The Maplewood Home Tour will showcase 5 homes in Maplewood with several of them having never been on the home tour before. The Ward Wellington Ward home will be back on the tour this year with a newly renovated 2nd floor master suite. This year’s headquarters will be the University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men (aka U-Prep) at 1290 Lake Avenue, the corner of Seneca Parkway and Lake Avenue. This building was originally built as a private residence for a Kodak executive. It later became the Bray Lock Manor Nursing Home. This is a prime example of re-purposing a structure while maintaining its history and architectural details. Tours of the school will also be available.
An addition to the Home Tour this year will be a talk by Ms. Cynthia Howk, Architectural Research Coordinator with the Landmark Society of Western New York. Ms. Howk will be giving a talk on the history of Maplewood and its architecture from 10 – 11 in the gym at U-Prep. The talk is free and open to the public.
Tickets for the 2016 Maplewood Home Tour are $12 per person in advance and $15 the day of the tour. Tickets will be on sale, beginning August 22nd at the Peppermill Restaurant, 1776 Dewey Ave; Re-House, 469 West Ridge Road; and Parkleigh, 215 Park Avenue. On the day of the event at the tour headquarters, University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men (aka U-Prep) at 1290 Lake Avenue (corner of Seneca Parkway and Lake Avenue). You may also call the Maplewood Neighborhood Association at 458-3460 to order tickets or for more information.
