The screening celebrates the dynamic journey of Negro League baseball’s triumphs and challenges through the first half of the twentieth century.
Told through the personal experience of notable Negro League umpire Bob Motley, the film explores Black baseball as a stage for some of the world’s greatest athletes, an economic and social pillar of Black communities, and the unintended consequences of MLB integration.

He will be joined by panelists Rev. Derrill Blue, a longtime baseball fan and senior pastor of Memorial A.M.E Zion Church, as well as Rochester native Walt Williams who played for the Rochester American Giants as a 15-year-old under manager Rocky Simmons in the Negro League.
