540WMain in collaboration with Wall Therapy, the SBA Neighborhood, and crochet artist Olek will be offering a free workshop on Tuesday, March 7th at 6:30pm.
We are reaching out to you because of an exciting new community art project in Rochester, with the visiting artist Olek. As an active supporter of women’s rights, Olek has worked with women around the world to create public art and performance pieces that advocate for women’s issues. Olek has been inspired to bring that work back to the United States, and to celebrate positive women’s voices in our communities. For more information about Olek’s recent projects, feel free to check out her 2016 reel: https://vimeo.com/195828872 We are looking for volunteers from our community to be part of this amazing public project. Crochet skills are preferable but not required, as we hope this will be a collaborative learning environment for all.
During these workshops, she will speak about her experience as a female immigrant to the US from Poland, her journey to becoming an American citizen, and her work on women’s rights projects. She will explain the details of the current project and will be teaching crochet skills to those inexperienced in the craft.
